Foodie : Star Village

Last night, I was feeling a little hungry because I didn't eat my dinner. So my dad decided to bring my family (my mum, brother and I) for dinner/supper. We went to this place called Star Village. There are a few branches around Selangor but the one I went to was in OUG.

My mum did not order anything because she knew some of us wouldn't be able to finish our food. So, we shared :)
I ordered a Lamb chop with lemon mints sauce. The sauce tasted like everything it said. Lemony and minty. If you're a fan of mint, the sauce is definitely for you. But, I wasn't able to finish it on my own as I'm quite a small eater.

(it doesn't come with the bun)

My dad ordered a Grilled Cheese Chicken Chop. The sneaky little me, managed to steal a few bites from him. I really liked it. There were a slice of cheese and ham on top of the actual chicken, which makes it even better!

Little brother of mine (not so little after all) ordered a Roast Top Rib Eye Steak. The beef was really tender. I personally don't really enjoy black pepper, but if you're one of those who loves black pepper, you'll definitely love their sauce.

I had a really nice time with my family. We never fail to bond over nice food

15 hours with my besties

Hi everyone!
Last Saturday (8-2-2014) was a very eventful day, so I thought I might as well tell you about it.
Even though it was very hectic and tiring, I still had an amazing time with my four best friends.
I had to be at a school at 6AM to help out for a carnival that will be happening at 9. I was extremely hungry and grumpy in the morning because I only had 3 hours of sleep the night before.
The carnival was alright, but not everyone came to their shifts on time, or even at all. It was just me, and my friend, Dhanyiaa doing most of the job. I didn't take any photos because I was too busy.
After the carnival was over, we (Dhanyiaa, Vinisha, Jilynn, Misha and I) headed to a mall nearby to have lunchner (as it was too late for lunch but too early for dinner) for my best friend, Vinisha's early birthday celebration. I wouldn't call it a tea because we were sooooo hungry and we had solid food.
We didn't get to take a lot of pictures, but we did manage to go to a "lala" photo booth in the mall.
Here's the picture :
I'm the Chinese girl with the red hat hehe

It was an amazing day for my friends and I, as we got to spend some (15 hours) quality time together. My friends make everything better.

♡ How do you celebrate your friend's birthday? Let me know! ♡

It's all about the pink

It's all about the pink

Hello there everyone! :)
Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I thought I would show you what I would wear if I was going out on a date night with that special someone (not that I have anyone to go with). I chose this dress because it looks very feminine, delicate and sweet. I went with the black high platform heels because I'm quite petite. You can definitely opt for flats if you would rather be more comfortable. I hope this gave you an idea or two on what to wear.

Nails of the week : Chinese New Year

Hello everyone,
Happy Chinese New Year!
If you still haven't figured it out yet, I am a Chinese, and I do celebrate Chinese New Year or as some of you may know it as the Lunar New Year.

I don't really know how to write these kind of posts, cause I just don't. Haha, sorry for being so lame. Everything is red and gold and sometimes yellow and orange during Chinese New Year, and thats the reason why my nails are in red and gold. I've always like the painting different colours on my thumb, and ring finger. I don't know what else there is to say, so I shall end it here. I hope everyone is having a great day. God bless x

♡ How's your day so far? I would love to know hehe ♡

Joyful January | Top 5

Hi everyone! I've decided to start doing favourites every month (at least, i'll try) I'm gonna list down 5 things, that I really like every month. There's not gonna be any fixed categories as I'd like to keep everything casual and not have to try out a certain new thing. I hope you like this kind of post! :)

Fashion
Boots : Topshop
As you can slightly see in the photo above, its inside is lined with fleece (?) I'm not to sure, but it feels extremely soft almost like I'm walking on clouds. I'm usually a size 34 or 35 but I was absolutely attracted to this pair of boots, so I didn't care really care about the sizes and bought a size 36. With a pair of socks, everything fits nicely. I'm glad a bought a size or 2 up. As to how I got my hands on those boots, I had to make the sales lady to call up another store to book it for me cause the Topshop I was in, only had a display one and it wasn't in its best condition. I hope I didn't bore you with the unnecessary information!

Movie
Frozen
Frozen is not an ordinary princess movie. I really really enjoyed it. Its even rated as a top 5 movie on IMDb of 2013. I know I'm a little late on the bandwagon but if you are like me too and haven't watch this movie yet, you have to watch it. I'm not going to spoil it for you but I'm gonna get you a little more excited to watch this : you will be addicted to the songs  ;)

Food

For my dad's birthday, my brother and I treated him to a birthday dinner at Victoria Station. Even though, it costed us a huge amount, we had a great family bonding over the great tasting food. That was definitely my favourite family outing of the month!

Book
The lucky one by Nicholas Sparks
You can read the description for the book here. I am not the best at describing anything so, a book is not an exception either. Just in general, all Nicholas Sparks' books are my favourite. No doubt, he is also one of my favourite author! You should definitely check this out, if you haven't already.

There is no need to rush into things. When you see that special someone, you will know. You will want to spend the rest of your life sitting next to them. When it's meant to be, it will be.
Do not ever rush into finding the one. Great things come to those who waits.

♡ Let me know if you can "top that" on any of the things I've mentioned above! Let me know your favourites as well ♡

1 crop top 5 ways

Style : Black crop top

Style : Black crop top by jiahuilai featuring a chanel nail colour

Hi everyone! I think I'll start creating more outfits on my Polyvore and posting them on here once a month.
I've got to admit that black crop tops are my absolute favourite. I wear them all the time (and no, I'm not kidding) Since I wear it so often, I thought maybe I could show you how I would style them so nobody will notice that I've been wearing the same top every time I leave the house. Tbh, (to be honest) you can just throw on anything and it'll still look nice because black is a very versatile colour. These are just some of my ideas, hope you like it!

DIY : Phone Case

You can change up this DIY however you like. Use different colour papers, collect pictures from the magazine and form a collage. It's totally up to you! I hope you like this DIY :)

These are the supplies I used + a blade
 What you'll need :
- Clear phone case (you can get one here
- Scissors / blade
- Paper / colour paper
- Sharpies / anything to decorate
- Pencil

This is the design I created, you can do whatever design you want.

How to? :
1. Trace the shape of your phone on a piece of paper
2. You can cut it out first or decorate it first.
3. Put it in your clear case and then put it on your phone
4. And there, you're done!

This is how mine turned out! Show me a picture of yours!
♡ Do you like this idea? If you do try this out, send me a picture on my Twitter / Instagram (@JiaHuiLai) ♡

Back To School : Study Tips

Here are some of my tips that will hopefully help you out when you're stressing out for school!

1. Flash Cards
You can easily get your hands on ready made flash cards in the stationary store or you can get crafty and make them yourself. Going through your flash cards before you sleep will help you remember them better.

2. Brain food
- Blueberries may be effective in improving or delaying short term memory loss.
Broccoli has a great source of Vitamin K, which is great for enchanting cognitive function and improving brainpower.
Nuts like almonds, walnuts and pistachio provide oxygen to the brain which increases your mental alertness and ability to retain information.
Dark chocolate can feed the brain by improving memory, increasing blood flow to the brain, increasing alertness and clarity.

3. Take reasonable breaks
Don't be too hard on yourself. Study for an hour and take 10 minutes rest. So you won't be too bored and still get your studying done!

4. Split up projects into smaller tasks
If your teacher assigned you a project that you need to be done by a certain date, set your deadline a week or a few days earlier. Do not do everything at the eleventh hour, split it up into smaller tasks and you'll feel much more motivated.

5. Make a to do list
Plan and write down everything you need to do, goals of the day, homework and your plans. Do not tell yourself that you will remember what your teacher told you, because you will not.

DO NOT EVER EVER PROCRASTINATE

2014

"Start 2014 off with an empty jar and fill it with notes about good things that happen. On new years eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened that year. You'll be amazed."
I did this last year and I can assure you that it is definitely worth it.
All you need is a jar.
Give it a try.

♡ I'm doing it, are you? ♡

2013 Favourites

Favourite Beauty Products:

Favourite Fragrance

Dreams Unlimited by The Body shop
Description based on the website : This exhilarating fragrance features notes of citrus, green chilli, white flowers and cedarwood.
As for me, I would say it's something feminine and musky.

 Someday by Justin Bieber
This is his firs
t perfume which I absolutely love. It has a sweet scent, very girly and dreamy. Just like how someday I'd get to meet him.

Favourite Nail Polish

You're Such a Budapest (left) and Suzi's Hungry AGAIN (right)
I got them from the Euro Centrale Mini Dotticure set by OPI.
You're Such a Budapest is a lilac colour, which is one of my favourite colours! Suzi's Hungry AGAIN is more on the brighter side. These nail polishes are quite sheer, you definitely need two coats or more to get the exact colour as seen in the bottle!

Favourite Lip Product

From left ; Revlon - Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pango Peach / 245 ; Revlon - Colour Burst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart / 090 ; Maybeline - Colour Sensational in RP41 (it's showing up a little too bright in the picture) ; Maybeline - Baby Lips in Anti-Oxidant Berry. On bottom ;  Revlon - Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous / 040

 Favourite Face/Eye/Skin Product

Photogenic Concealer by The Face Shop
I really like that this has a double side as I can choose if I to cover up my imperfection slightly more or less. On days where I didn't have a good night sleep, I'd use the liquid end. The stick concealer makes it super easy to apply and blend as well.

Maybeline - The Falsies Volum' Express in Waterproof (top) ; The Face Shop - Freshian Volumizing Mascara (01 Curling)

Duo Beurre Corporel Body Butter by The Body Shop
I love body butters and it's a bonus that this is a duo! There is a side for dry skin and another for normal skin. That is so convenient because you can use the dry skin side during the winter and you wouldn't have to spend extra money on a different one. Not to forget that it also has an amazing scent like flowers and berries.

Random Favourites:

I usually have a bar of this to kick start my day. It has a variety of nuts and some of my favourites like almond and hazelnut.

I always pamper myself with some hot lemon tea before sleep. I like to add a slice of lemon and a packet of sugar.

 Songs/Album

Lorde's  Pure Heroine album
Justin Bieber's Believe album (even though it was last year's)

Movies

The Hunger Games : Catching Fire
Now You See Me

 TV shows

The Originals & The Carrie Diaries

Books

The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks
One Day by David Nicholls
The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephan Chbosky (It was out in 2012 but I reread it and loved it)
